B01: Nano Switch driven by Localized Near-fields (2007-2011)

Summary:

The main target of this project is the implementation of a nanoscaled switching unit using photoactive molecular switches. Femtosecond laser induced near fields with dimensions considerably below the diffraction limit are supposed to induce the switching process and therefore restrict the active switching area to dimensions below 100 nm. We intend to implement the prototype of such a switch using photoinduced conductivity alteration in metal-polymer-azobenzene composites.
