B02: Unidirectional switching of molecules on surfaces (2007 - 2015)

Summary:

This project aims at the application of adsorbed photoswitchable molecules as light-driven molecular machines, particularly the controlled transport of nanoscaled objects on surfaces. Both the switching process as a function of light polarization and direction of incidence as well as the impact of these switching processes on physisorbed nanoparticles will be investigated using adsorbate monolayers of triazatriangulated triphenyls containing vertically oriented azobenzene derivatives on gold surfaces. These studies will be performed under irradiation using a combination of spectroscopic methods (SPR, gap-mode SERS and scanning force microscopy).
