A02: Light Driven Synthesis (2007-2011)

Summary:

Artificial stand-alone molecular devices not only require an energy source (which is light in most subprojects) but also a chemical energy storage. A chemical energy supply is necessary if the targeted function should be performed at a location which is not directly accessible by an external energy source. Nature builds up ATP as a universal chemical energy storage, using a proton gradient as the energy source. We intend to utilize light energy to drive the endergonic condensation of inorganic anions.
